I was considering writing some stuff for the C28 blog-wall for a while, but I haven’t really gotten around to it. I might want to start writing a series of “Random Observations” posts  about manga/anime and cartoons, etc. (but probably focused more about particular shows/genres). Even this post (text below V) is something I wrote a long while ago when I had the time back some time in early 2009.

So I was watching Ouran (Ouran High School Host Club) to see how it is in English. As a kid, the days of watching Sailor Moon and DBZ and other anime oldies dubbed are regarded as pretty great; then again, so was power rangers. Going back at this age one can consider a lot of the dubwork of the olden days really annoying/cheesy and flawed.

I was considering writing an essay about it, but I’ll save whoever reads this the trouble. I think ever since Bleach came out, I’ve notice the increase of quality dubs in anime (probably because the early naruto dubs and 4kids one piece dropped the bar). At this point I’ve seen a lot of subbed anime so now dubbed anime are being juxtaposed unlike before in the Sailor DBZ days.

Of course unlike old school anime, many anime are now aired on adult swim (because they’re too badass for american kiddies), that could be the reason why quality in dubs are higher; Cowboy bebop was pretty nicely dubbed.

Eureka 7, Samurai Champloo, etc. These are enjoyable in english, but probably because they’re adult swim shows. However, I’m watching Ouran, and this is should not even be considered adult. And I have to say, I’m impressed. I’ve watched Ouran back when it was subbed, and I loved it. And now I’m watching it dubbed. I still love it. Of course there are still some Japanese cultural tidbits that permeate through, but that can’t be helped. Over all, Ouran is still pretty awesome. It may not be identical to the subs, but dubs are pretty cool too. So, I give BangZoom and Funimation props for good work. Especially Funimation, subbing episodes immediately after the new anime eps air, Good job on thinking of solutions to piracy.

For those still reading, I started studying the quality of dubs ever since I learned the black ranger dubbed anime. I was tripped out and had to hear his work myself. Not sure why it started from there.

And since then I just became a fan of JYB, because he’s a funny dude. Also, he seems to be everywhere, from anime (Bleach, Haruhi, Eureka 7, Wolf’s Rain) to games (Tales of Symponia 2, Devil May cry 4, Some other various RPGs). I want to check out how Eureka 7 is in English and if they captured the emotions and romance, but there are a lot of eps… and I don’t remember which ep #s were the good ones. Nonetheless, E7 is are also somewhat nicely dubbed (when you look past the cut intro) . So yeah, for those who haven’t checked out Ouran or Erueka 7. So Sub or Dub, whatever you like, check it out. good stuff, especially Ouran.
